YOKER SPORTS CENTRE

# Skating at Yoker Sports Centre

Yoker Sports Centre

Yoker Sports Hall is situated at Spiershall Road off Dumbarton Road half way to Clydebank travelling west. It isn't handy for everyone but it is one of the few satisfactory halls for skating where we have been allowed access. All levels of ability (see FAQs) are welcome. This is a recreational skating session not a lesson but some help may be given subject to the number of skaters present on the day. The emphasis is on relaxed skating, keeping fit, having fun, after all that is what skating is all about plus getting ready to skate the TGO when better weather comes along.

The purpose of indoor skating is to provide an ideal safe practising environment on a level floor with a good surface. This makes skating much easier especially for early beginners or long time returners. You progress comfortably at your own pace and at the same time have the luxury of avoiding the uncertainty of Scottish Weather.

F.A.Q.

  • Can a "first-time" beginner come along? The short answer is no. You should take beginner lessons at the Arc Sports Centre first to get you started.
  • What time do we start skating? 10.00am prompt in the Yoker Sports Centre main hall. (finish at 11am) Fitting skates & pads takes ages so if you don't arrive early enough it means some of the session time is lost. If possible please try and come at least 10 mins before the start.
  • How much does it cost? Maximum charge £4 payable on the day.
  • Are hire skates available? Yes this should be possible if you order the skates beforehand. Call/text Don Morton on 07733 276 902 or email inline@tryskating.com two days in advance. Hire cost is £3 which includes safety pads but not a helmet.
  • Do I need a helmet? Helmets are recommended. Please bring your cycle helmet. You skate without one at your own risk.
  • Can children come alone? Definitely not. This is an adult skate session, no under 13's allowed.
  • What should I wear? Comfortable casual clothing. Jeans or similar and lightweight tops because the hall gets quite warm after we have been skating a while.
  • Do I have to use a locker? We are supposed to but at the present time we take our belongings into the hall with us.
  • Does the sports centre have toilets? Yes of course.
  • Travelling by Public Transport? Best come by bus. Use the Bus Finder. The nearest train station is Garscadden about ½ mile distance.
  • Coming by car? The centre has its own car park. Make sure you do not leave any valuables in your car during the skate session.

Did we forget something? (we usually do)

  • Got a question we haven't thought about?
  • Need some more help or advice?
  • Then please do not hesitate to ask........
  • Email or text/call 07733 276 902.

Finally

Skating is a balancing activity you skate at your own risk. Wear safety pads and a helmet at all times and obey the safety instructions issued on the day by the person in charge. You have a duty of care to yourself as well as to others.
